Smart Lighting Expo & Spring Lighting Fair Gathered Around 15,000 Global Buyers

Positive response from buyers, the industry is positive about the future of the market 


-The 2nd Intelligent Lighting Expo and the 16th Hong Kong International Spring Lighting Fair concluded successfully today


-The two exhibitions successfully attracted about 15,000 buyers from 108 countries and regions, with an increase in the number of buyers from Asia, Europe and Latin America.


-On-site survey results show that more than half of the respondents still expect overall sales to increase in the next one to two years.


-InnoEX and the Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Spring Edition) will be held on Sunday (April 13) at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai.


April 9, 2025 - Organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), the 2nd Intelligent Lighting Expo (ILEX) and the 16th Hong Kong International Spring Lighting Fair (Spring Lighting Fair) concluded successfully today, attracting a total of about 15,000 buyers from 108 countries and regions to visit and negotiate in person, with growth in buyers from Asia, such as Indonesia, South Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand; Europe, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, and Poland; as well as Argentina and Colombia from Latin America. Buyers from Asia, such as Indonesia, Korea, Taiwan and Thailand; Europe, such as the Czech Republic, the Netherlands and Poland; as well as Latin America, such as Argentina and Colombia, all saw an increase in the number of buyers, which demonstrates the attractiveness of the two exhibitions as a platform for global lighting products trade.


HKTDC Vice President, Ms. Sophia Cheung, said, "As the first of the four HKTDC spring technology fairs this month, the two fairs gathered the most advanced lighting and solutions, and organized a number of industry seminars and exchange activities for the industry to develop contacts and discuss the hot topics in the market, to promote the industry in the development of new trends in green innovation, healthy lighting and smart technology. The Hong Kong International ICT Expo and Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Spring Edition) will be held for four consecutive days starting from Sunday (April 13), reflecting Hong Kong's position as an international innovation and technology hub."


Home Automation and Intelligent Lighting Control System Product Potential Showing Advantages


In order to better understand the trend of the lighting industry, HKTDC conducted a questionnaire survey for 446 exhibitors and buyers on site. The results showed that buyers and exhibitors remained positive about the economic outlook.


The market outlook and product trend highlights results are as follows:


-Within six to twelve months, 38.3% of respondents expect overall sales to increase, while 52.2% expect them to remain flat. In the next one to two years, 51.8% of respondents expect overall sales to increase, while 39.7% expect them to remain flat.


-Respondents consider the growth prospects of lighting products in the following target sales markets to be ideal and very good in the next two years: Taiwan (77.1%), Mainland China (76.2%), Hong Kong (70.6%), Japan (65.8%), and ASEAN countries (63.3%).


-In terms of market potential, the markets that most respondents are trying to explore are Europe (24.2%), Australia and the Pacific Islands (17.3%), North America (17.3%), ASEAN countries (13.3%), and Latin America (13.3%).


-Respondents identified LED lighting (36.8%), home lighting (25.1%), and commercial lighting (24.4%) as having the greatest growth potential.


-In terms of intelligent lighting, respondents believe that home automation and intelligent lighting control systems (48.9%), energy-efficient lighting control solutions (39%), and outdoor intelligent security lighting systems (25.8%) have the most potential for development in the next two years.


-Respondents indicated that consumers are willing to pay an average additional 28% premium for lighting products equipped with smart features, relative to traditional lighting products.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) smart lighting fixtures and solutions continue to be the focus of the show in recent years. Limi, a UK-based brand participating in the Spring Lighting Fair for the first time, showcased its self-developed AI lighting control system, and its Founder and President, Umer Asif, commented, "The Spring Lighting Fair is the first international exhibition we have participated in and it allows us to introduce our brand new lighting concepts to buyers worldwide and increase brand exposure. The Spring Lighting Fair is the first international exhibition we have participated in, allowing us to introduce our new lighting concepts to global buyers and increase brand exposure," said company founder Umer Asif. We have already established contact with over 200 buyers from Hong Kong, Europe, Saudi Arabia and the US, and have had initial discussions with over 50 potential business partners. We expect the show to generate sales of US$40 million to US$50 million for the company. Due to the satisfactory results of the exhibition, we have confirmed our participation in the Fall Lighting Fair and booked a larger booth."


Among the 180 top brands gathered in the Lighting Gallery, the focal point of the Spring Lighting Fair, is Hong Kong-based Siki, a renowned lighting brand in the catering industry in Mainland China, which specializes in the development of functional LED lighting products. Mr. Ip Cheong, General Manager of exhibitor Liang Owltech Company Limited, said, "We participate in the Hong Kong International Lighting Fair every year in order to expand our overseas market and establish Siki as a global brand. At this year's Spring Lighting Fair, we have already met with a number of new buyers from Europe, the Middle East and Southeast Asia, among which about 30 potential customers will place orders, with an expected sales volume of US$500,000 to US$1 million," said Mr. Yip Cheong, General Manager of the exhibitor, Liang Owltech Company Limited.


Smart city initiatives have been the driving force behind the rapid growth of the smart lighting market, and Brazilian buyer Azizi is committed to sourcing quality lighting products for Brazilian companies and government projects. Our company has been sourcing at the Hong Kong Lighting Fair since 2012, and this year we have already found three potential suppliers at the Smart Lighting Expo for smart controllers for street lighting projects, with an order value of about US$1.2 million," said Fábio Oliveira, founder and president of the company. We will continue our sourcing journey through the Click2Match platform to ensure that we keep in touch with more suppliers after the show," he said.


Seemis Kft from Hungary is looking to source quality and cost-effective lighting products from manufacturers in Mainland China through the fair," said Magyar Krisztina, President of the company, "We have contacted three potential suppliers in Mainland China through the Click2Match platform, offering track lighting, linear lighting, waterproof, dustproof and corrosion-resistant lighting, and floodlighting. We will be sourcing at the Spring Lighting Fair. We will be sourcing $150,000 to $200,000 worth of lighting products at the Spring Lighting Fair," he said.


+The two exhibitions will continue to adopt the "EXHIBITION+" mode of online and offline integration, where buyers can not only source products on the show floor, but also search for products and services on the "Click2Match" intelligent business matching platform and the "hktdc.com Sourcing" platform. The two fairs' Click2Match platforms will be open until April 16, continuing to help global exhibitors and buyers facilitate more business cooperation.

The HKTDC celebrated a series of events this month, with the Business of Innovation Week (BIT Week) organized by the Innovation, Technology and Industry Commission (ITIC) of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and the HKTDC. The BIT Week brought together a series of exciting innovation and technology activities, including exhibitions, forums, seminars, roundtables, and networking events, with the aim of promoting industry and cross-sectoral exchanges, and reinforcing Hong Kong's strategic position as an international innovation and technology hub. It also aims to strengthen Hong Kong's strategic position as an international innovation center. The series of exciting events in BIT Week include the Smart Lighting Expo and the Hong Kong Web3 Carnival, which ended today, as well as the Hong Kong International Innovation and Technology Expo (InnoEX), the Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Spring Edition), and the World Youth Science Congress (WYSC), which will kick off on Sunday, and will be the must-attend technology events for the industry.

The HKTDC will also organize a series of fashion and lifestyle exhibitions later this month, including the Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair, the Hong Kong Fashion Access Fair, the Hong Kong International Printing & Packaging Fair and the Hong Kong Luxury Packaging Fair, as well as the Hong Kong International Licensing Show and the Licensing Asia Conference, to promote Hong Kong's economic and trade development on all fronts.
